The effectiveness of self-compassion training on the sense of security and academic engagement in secondary school female students of the 6th district of Tehran

Purpose: The purpose of the present study was the effectiveness of self-compassion training on the sense of security and academic procrastination in female students of the second secondary school of education in the 6th district of Tehran.
Method:The current research was of experimental studies with quasi-experimental design and of pre-test-post-test type with a control group. The statistical population of the present study included all female students of the second secondary level in the 6th district of Tehran in the academic year of 2023-2024. Among them, 60 people were selected by purposeful sampling and 30 people were randomly assigned to the experimental group and 30 people to the control group. The experimental group received self-compassion training for 8 sessions of 90 minutes. The two experimental and control groups responded to the academic procrastination scale of Solomon and Roth Bloom (1984) and the security sense scale of Edmonson (1999) in the pre-test and post-test phases. The collected data were analyzed by analysis of covariance.
Findings: The research findings showed that there was a significant difference between the sense of security and academic procrastination of the experimental and control groups in the post-test stage, and the average scores of academic procrastination in the experimental group decreased and the sense of security increased in this group (05 /0p<).
Conclusion: According to the findings of the research, it can be concluded that the education based on compassion has had an effect on increasing the sense of security and reducing academic procrastination of the second high school female students of the 6th district of Tehran.
