The Effectiveness of Metacognitive Therapy on Anxiety and Communication Skills of Secondary School Girls in Parsabad City

Abstract

The aim of the current research is the effectiveness of metacognitive therapy on anxiety and communication skills of secondary school girls in Pars Abad city. The research method is semi-experimental and of the pre-test-post-test type with a control group. The statistical population of this research consisted of all secondary school girls of Pars Abad city in the academic year of 1401-402 (961 people). Using Cochran's sampling method, 274 people were selected by multi-stage cluster method. Then Beck's anxiety and communication skills questionnaires of Barton J were distributed among them and the number of 30 people who got the lowest scores of communication skills and the highest scores of anxiety were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups, and the experimental group had 8 sessions of 60 minutes. They were trained in metacognitive therapy. In order to analyze the data, the statistical method of multivariate covariance analysis and SPSS 22 software were used. The findings showed that metacognitive therapy had a significant effect on students' anxiety and communication skills (P<0.05). Therefore, counselors, school psychologists and therapists can use the metacognitive approach to reduce anxiety and improve communication skills for students.
