Effectiveness of a Logotherapy-Based Suicide Prevention Package on Suicide Resilience, Hope, and Meaning in Life Among University Students with Suicidal Ideation at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a logotherapy-based suicide prevention package in improving suicide resilience, hope, and meaning in life among university students experiencing suicidal ideation.
Methods and Materials: This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest–posttest design with a control group and a two-month follow-up. The study population consisted of students with suicidal ideation at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in 2025. Forty eligible students were selected through purposive extreme-case sampling and randomly assigned to an experimental group (n = 20) or a control group (n = 20). The experimental group received a logotherapy-based suicide prevention intervention in 10 weekly 60-minute sessions, whereas the control group received no intervention during the study period. Data were collected using the Suicide Resilience Inventory (SRI), Snyder’s Adult Hope Scale (AHS), and the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ), which assesses the presence of meaning and search for meaning. Outcomes were measured at pretest, posttest, and two-month follow-up. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of variance and Bonferroni post hoc comparisons.
Findings: Repeated-measures analyses demonstrated significant group-by-time effects for suicide resilience, hope, presence of meaning, and search for meaning (p < 0.05). Compared with the control group, students receiving the logotherapy-based intervention showed significantly greater improvements in all four outcomes at posttest (p < 0.05). Bonferroni comparisons further indicated that these improvements remained statistically significant at the two-month follow-up, demonstrating maintenance of the intervention effects over time (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: The logotherapy-based suicide prevention package effectively enhanced suicide resilience, hope, and both dimensions of meaning in life among students with suicidal ideation, with effects sustained for two months. The intervention may therefore serve as a useful adjunct to university-based suicide prevention and psychological support programs for students at elevated suicide risk.
