The Relationship of Psychological Capital with Happiness with the Mediating Role of Family Functioning

Abstract

Objective: Happiness is one of the variables derived from positive psychology that plays an effective role in improving many psychological characteristics. Therefore, the present research was conducted with the aim of determine the relationship of psychological capital with happiness with the mediating role of family functioning.

Methods and Materials: The present study was a descriptive-analytical from type of cross-sectional. The research population was all married nurses of Kermanshah city hospitals in 2020 year. The sample size was considered 75 people, which this number were selected with using the cluster sampling method. The instruments of this study were included the questionnaires of psychological capital (Luthans et al., 2007), Oxford happiness (Argyle and Lu, 1990) and Macmaster family functioning assessment (Epstein et al., 1983). The data of the present research were analyzed with using the Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with enter model in SPSS-22 software.

Findings: The findings of this research showed that psychological capital including hope, resilience, optimism and self-efficacy had a positive and significant relationship with happiness and family functioning in nurses (P<0.05). Also, psychological capital did not play an effective role in predicting happiness and family functioning in nurses (P>0.05), but it could play an effective role in predicting the combination of their happiness and family functioning (P<0.001).

Conclusion: According to the results of this research, promoting the psychological capital through educational workshops plays an effective role in improving the combination of happiness and family functioning in nurses.
