Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy in reducing depression, anxiety, and stress in women with multiple sclerosis.

Methodology: This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest–posttest design with a control group. The statistical population consisted of women with multiple sclerosis, from whom 30 participants were selected and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (n=15 each). The Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) was used for data collection. The experimental group participated in eight weekly ISTDP sessions, while the control group received no intervention. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance.

Findings: The results indicated significant posttest differences between the experimental and control groups for depression, anxiety, and stress (p<0.001). Effect size values demonstrated that the intervention accounted for a substantial proportion of variance in psychological outcomes.

Conclusion: Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy is an effective clinical approach for reducing negative emotional states and improving mental health in women with multiple sclerosis.
